How can i-babble help ?
i-babble is a safe online private social network community for secondary school children aged between 11-16 years.
i-babble is not an educational site, it won't teach them the 3 r's, that's because all the children that were asked what they didn't want more education when they got home what they did want was a proper grown up social network site like myspace, bebo & msn, but without the worry of being prayed upon, a safe place where they can hang out with there friends online.
Kids love what adults call social network sites, like MySpace, Bebo, Facebook, Msn & Youtube and all offer different features, including Messaging, profiles, Music & Video.
Well, at i-babble we have all that is popular with the major network sites then, added Live Chat, Flash chat, Instant messaging, Over a 1000 Free to play games, Design your own page or themes, Forums, Blogs, Run your own Quizzes, Battle of the images, all with Swear filters throughout, but also included within the site are places where they can learn how to deal with bullying and stay safe online when they do log out of i-babble, not just a few rudimentary links at the bottom of the last page.
Also with safety online videos made by The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre and the Childnet " chatdanger " website links they can see hear and read about actual case studies in a language that they can understand.
All in all safe environment for school kids to hang out, meet friends & have fun with the added benefit of keeping our children safe online.

i-babble: What makes it so different ?
Where we differ from the rest is that as a paid subscription club, We do not rely on mass inappropriate advertising to fund the site and therefore any advertising that there maybe will be vetted with child safety in mind.
The only way to signup will be through the child's school, this allows us and the school together to regulate who's online at any given time.
Because the age limit is strictly 11 - 16 years there are no youngsters or adults chatting together.
There are links to government run online safety sites throughout i-babble, along with videos and Online safety tips aimed at 11- 16 year olds.
i-babble: What's to be achieved ?
We are not just giving children a safe place to hang out and have fun with there friends,
But learn to meet, get on with, and understand, other kids from other schools all over the U.K. and may pickup some basic computing skills at the same time.
Then maybe after watching some of the videos made by (CEOP), viewing the chatdanger website and reading about online safety or bulling, when they do leave i-babble they can have a knowledge of how to use the internet safely.
i-babble: What makes it safe ?
What makes it safe is the only way children can join is through schools.
A form must be downloaded from i-babble or given out by school, filled in by parents and then sent in to school with the child's details and parents signature this is then sent to us to register, an email will be sent when registration is accepted.
This way there won't be anybody on the site that their school doesn't know about.
We will also have a point of contact within the school if we have any concerns.
We will not hold any of the children's data except the email address, which could be either the child's or the family email address, so the parent could see anything that is is sent.

i-babble: What goes on inside ?
For starters, like mentioned above there are some of the usual features,
But first thing will probably be personalise their own profile with their username, then add hobbies, interests, favorite band or song, films or games then off to design their own page with colour or themes.
Next would probably upload music before off to leave a message in a forum or create a topic of their own, send an email, or answer a question quiz, poll or even make one of their own.
Chatting to friends using instant messaging or cam chat, a feature that isn't found in many of the major social network sites this is not like leaving a message and waiting for the answer like a forum , this is instant live chat but safe in the knowledge that their are only people of the same age group that would normally be in their school.
Then there are the games, over a 1000 games are free to play with no junk advertising " hit this and win a free mobile phone " or " click here to get the latest chart topper " just to be swamped in spam and unscrupulous web sites.
